Jim Morrison - DLAP

Jim Morrison
DaFredo Line Art Portrait

L'Uomo Universale?

This portrait I would never have done if it wasn't with such a unique technique, too iconic to touch!

If there is one rock star picture you can call iconic it is probably this one.

Nevertheless an easy choice for me which Jim to paint. The decision on the colour was more difficult. After my black-on-white Herman Brood DLAP I wanted to experiment a bit. So why not try a piping bag full of "chocolate" instead of "cream"?

To give it a more clasical look I decided for brown-on-beige.

While finishing the design on my computer I noticed the similarities with some other (bit more famous) piece of art: was it Jim's intention to pose like the Vitruvian Universal Man of Leonardo Da Vinci? Browsing for it on th internet it showed there were indeed speculations about that. I would have never come to the idea if I had not created this portait in thes colours. Funny things you discover while creating!

Another thing I changed compared to my previous DLAP works was the angle of the lines. May seem a minor detail, but since I am left-handed (like every great artist seems supposed to be) I had to draw my previous works working sideways, tilting the canvas 90 degrees to make sure I was able to draw straight lines with my piping bag.

Drawing Jim was way more convenient for me this way: having the portrait straight-up whil working I had a much better idea of what I was doing and what it would look like. But in the end it is about the end result: I found out some portraits look better at 45 degrees while others do at -45.
