  • Bio - Fred Spikker

Even though Fred Spikker showed great talent drawing and painting in his younger years, he decided to follow a different track from the one of being of an artist. He achieved a bachelor degree in electronics and after his study he pursued a successful career in IT. In 2017 though, his passion for art fired up again after an experiment drawing his dog with chalk pastels. He amazed himself with the result and one thing led to another: he followed some workshops and classes in painting with acrylic and oil. In the meanwhile he discovered WPAP, familiarized himself with oil pastels and created portraits of his family members.

Though not a frequent museum visitor, Fred was always attracted to street artists and small galleries when traveling abroad. In the summer of 2018 during a holiday trip to Thailand this curiosity led him to a small atelier. A painter was creating beautiful images of sheikhs and elephants, using a technique of drawing parallel lines: thicker at light spots, thinner at darker ones. While looking close up it was hard to identify what he was drawing, but from a distance the result was astonishing!
It was not allowed to take any pictures, but  after a conversation with the artist and confirmation that it was created using normal acrylic painting the seed for DLAP was planted in Fred's head.

Local artist and creative entrepreneur Egbert Scheffer of Egbert.EGD introduced him to Tape Art, an art form popular in particular in Berlin, and this brought the 3rd element into the mix.

Fred does not like to paint small. His works are typically 80x120, a perfect size for WPAP, Tape Art and DLAP. He does not  see any limitations however when it comes to larger works. Don't be surprised if sooner or later you'll find one of his works as a large mural in a major city.
